About MeGrowing up in Iowa, gardening was a given part of my life. In fact, it was a chore that I didn't particularly enjoy. I had no idea the value of this life skill, nor did I know how unconnected most people are to our food source. Over the years, I discovered that one time 'chore' is actually a fulfilling, rewarding hobby and invaluable life lesson.
Having spent the past two decades living in Washington DC, I have gained a broader perspective. I understand how one can be so disconnected to their food supply. It is so easy to walk into a store and buy whatever one needs without considering how the product arrived on the shelf. And I wonder how different our shopping habits might be if everyone was more connected with our food supply. |
Why |
Even though I live in the city, I am fortunate to have space for a backyard vegetable garden. This is not true for most city dwellers.

Sidewalk Sprouts? |
The purpose of Sidewalk Sprouts is to offer tips, ideas and encouragement to anyone interested in herb or vegetable gardening. I believe that vegetables can be grown virtually anywhere - windowsills, flower pots, decks, patios, balconies. You just have to be creative, persistent, and maybe a bit lucky.
